The Old Lesbian Oral Herstory Project
Excerpts: Quotes and Profiles
The Herstories we have gathered are filled with insights, revelations, humor, observations and wisdom. Transcripts can be a dozen pages, or over a hundred pages. On this website, we offer a collection of excerpts illustrating a few of the hundreds of valuable thoughts disclosed by the women who have generously shared their life stories.
We offer two forms of excerpts: individual quotes and profiles. Quotes are shorter pieces and are organized by some broad subject headings. Profiles are a more in depth look at a women's Herstory. The excerpts give us all a glimpse into what it was like for these women to live as lesbians.

Bev, born 1930: When I was maybe eleven or twelve, I began to notice that I wasn't starting to think of boys as my friends were. I was focusing on women and girls as objects of my affection. I knew that this had to be terribly wrong. I was very worried. And my one desire, if I just had enough money, was to talk to the doctor. He could fix what was broken.
