Passage from page 31 of Marie's transcript:
Tomboy was a necessity for me because the things I had to do, women didn’t do. I thought girls were sissies. In my neighborhood, I played with the boys.… In school, I was an all around athlete. I ran, I won the hundred yard dash, I was in the band, I was in the drum and bugle corps, I played baseball, I played basketball. The 100 yard, 75 yard, 50 yard and pole vault. At one of the tournaments, I won first place for all of them. And the coach said to me, ‘God-damn, why can’t you be a boy?!’ I said, ‘Don’t ask me. I wish to heck I was a boy!
